Construction of a single-family home for an active young family

On the edge of the older part of Železniki, we designed a modern single-family home tailored to the client’s wishes and the orientation of the lot. Since the southern side of the lot is bordered by the main road through the settlement, we set the building back from the road and placed a canopy with a porch in front of the house, creating a transition between public and private space.

The client wanted a house designed around an atrium with a covered terrace, as the family spends a lot of time outdoors. The house is designed as a low, spacious building where the ground floor combines open living spaces, illuminated by light from the south and east. The afternoon western sun also enters the interior via the staircase, further emphasizing the sense of openness and connectivity between the spaces.

The covered terrace faces northeast, offering more privacy and pleasant views of the open meadow and the hills in the background. The terrace is also accessible from the home office, next to which a spa bathroom with a planned sauna is designed.

The attic portion of the house is designated for sleeping quarters. To avoid a feeling of confinement, we designed the hallway as a gallery, connecting both floors and creating a unique spatial ambiance. The northern wing of the house contains two children’s rooms, while the master bedroom is located in the eastern part of the building and includes a walk-in closet and an en-suite bathroom.
